AI Translation

AI translation produces the first draft of your documents inside Wordbee Translator. It is set up as a machine translation system, so it slots into the same places any MT engine does, with one difference: for every batch of segments it reads your translation memory and term base as reference and follows the instructions you write, so the draft arrives in your terminology and style.

When AI Translation Runs

AI translation runs wherever machine translation runs today:

  1. When marking documents for online translation. In the Prepare file(s) for translation popup, tick Machine translation ("Machine translate text not otherwise pretranslated"). In Standard projects, machine translation runs as part of the word counting step, so Word counting must be ticked for it to run. In Codyt projects, it runs when the document is marked online.

  2. With the Machine translate action. Available on the Work & Delivery tab, on Codyt document lists, and from a job's details popup to translate that job's content on demand. The dialog lets you choose which text to translate: untranslated segments only, untranslated or machine translated, or all segments.

  3. In the Editor, as a batch action.

  4. For a single segment in the Editor (Edit > Machine translate). The Editor uses the project's default machine translation engine for the language pair; you can pick a preferred engine per language pair under Preferences > Machine translation. A single segment translated this way is not enriched with memory and terminology references.

  5. In MT Hive. When an MT Hive form uses an AI workflow as its machine translation engine, the instant translation is grounded in the memories and term bases listed on that same form, so portal output follows the resources the form already declares.

By default, the workflow only translates segments that have nothing yet: anything a person edited or a memory pre-translated is left untouched. You can change this with the Skip Segments By Origin setting (see Configuring AI Workflow Parameters).

Pre-translation and AI translation divide the work; they do not feed each other. A segment your word count profile pre-translates from the memory (for example, with the threshold at 75%) is never sent to the AI: it already has content. Two separate settings are at play here. The pre-translation threshold in your word count profile decides which segments are filled from the memory and taken away from the AI. The TM Minimum Similarity parameter decides which memory matches the AI receives as reference for the segments it does translate. Lowering the pre-translation threshold gives the AI fewer segments to translate; it does not send those matches to the AI as reference.

Document preparation takes longer with an AI workflow than with a classic machine translation engine, because every batch is prepared with fresh reference material from your project (see How a Workflow Processes Your Content on the AI Workflows page). The popup shows live progress while this phase runs, naming the target language and starting again for each one.

Choosing a Workflow Variant

AI translation is available in single-agent and multi-agent variants. The name indicates the number of agents, for example MT workflow: 1 Agent and MT workflow: 3 Agents:

Variant

How it works

When to choose it

1 Agent

One agent translates each batch in a single pass.

Fast first drafts where a person or a later step reviews the output.

3 Agents

The first agent translates, a second agent validates the result against the source and your references, and a third corrects what the second flagged.

Content that should be as reliable as possible before a person sees it. Each extra agent adds processing time and AI usage.

Setting It Up

AI translation is added to your platform as the Wordbee AI machine translation connector: you create an MT profile, select the workflow it runs, and review the parameters it exposes. The full procedure is on the Wordbee AI connector page. Once saved, the system is available in your projects' MT settings like any other machine translation system, and its parameters follow the rules described in Configuring AI Workflow Parameters.
