Secret Projects

Some clients need their work kept confidential. Mark a project as Secret so that only its managers and administrators can find or open it. Secret works the same way on Standard and Codyt projects.

  • Making a project secret: tick one option when you create or edit the project.

  • What Secret does not restrict: the areas where the project's data stays visible.

Making a Project Secret

Follow these steps to make a project secret:

  1. Create or edit a Standard or Codyt project.

  2. Tick Secret, next to the Manager field.

  3. Save the project.

Only the project's manager, its additional managers, and administrators can now find or open it. Other internal users don't see it in the project list and can't open its pages, even if they're allowed to view projects of any manager. On the project details, a Secret badge appears next to the manager. To see what Secret does, hover over the tickbox or the badge.

Secret stays on until someone unticks it. Other changes to the project, such as Assign to me, confirming an order, or adding a language, leave it on.

A project template keeps the Secret setting. Projects created from a secret template are secret too, including projects attached to an order. Only administrators and the template's managers can select a secret template.

Any internal user who can edit the project can tick or untick Secret. No specific access right controls it, and suppliers can't change it.

What Secret Does Not Restrict

Secret hides the project itself, not everything linked to it:

  • Job lists: users who can view projects of any manager still see the project's jobs.

  • Outsourced projects: the supplier of an outsourced secret project can still open it.

  • Invoices and reports: invoices and the reporting module are not restricted.

  • Project list: the list doesn't show which projects are secret.

  • API: the API doesn't show or change the Secret setting.

If some users must not see a secret project's data, also restrict their access to invoices and reports.
