PO and POT files (used by systems such as Drupal) store every text as an entry. Some entries contain nothing but a placeholder, for example [GAME_001], which you protect with a do-not-translate rule. By default, Wordbee leaves these entries out of the Editor. You can keep them, so translators see every entry in its original position.
-
Keeping markup-only entries: turn on one option in the PO/POT configuration.
-
Protecting them automatically: lock them during the word count so nobody has to work on them.
Keeping markup-only entries in the Editor
Follow these steps to extract markup-only entries:
-
Go to Settings > Translation Settings > Document Formats and open a PO/POT configuration.
-
Click Edit.
-
On the General tab, under Other content, select Extract markup-only entries.
-
Make sure Content is html is not selected. The option does not apply when it is.
-
Save the configuration, then import a PO or POT file with it.
Only users who can edit file format configurations can change this option. Other users see the page in view mode.
For example, a file has three entries: "Before", "[GAME_001]" and "After", and a rule protects everything inside square brackets. Without the option, the middle entry does not appear in the Editor. With it, all three appear in their original order.
Good to know
-
The option is off by default. Existing configurations behave as before.
-
The option only extracts the entries. It does not confirm, lock or fill in their translation, so they remain open work until you protect them (see the next section).
-
Documents imported before this option was available do not show these entries. Import them again.
-
Like other PO entries, these are delivered with their stored translation, or with the source, depending on your source fallback setting. To keep translations that already exist in the file, include the target language when you import it. Without a target language, the entry is delivered empty, or as the source if source fallback is on.
Protecting markup-only entries automatically
Follow these steps to confirm and lock markup-only entries during the word count:
-
Open the word count profile of your project in Settings > Translation Settings > Word Counting.
-
Turn on Do not translate and lock markup-only segments.
-
Run a word count for the target languages, with segment changes saved.
Each eligible entry with an empty translation then receives a copy of the source and is confirmed, locked and excluded from the cost. Entries whose translation came from the file are not changed.
The two options work independently. Extraction makes the entries visible, and the word count profile option protects them.
