When you open a translation memory or a term base from Resources, you can remove an entry without leaving the Editor. Deletion happens one entry at a time, behind a deliberate mode and a confirmation, because removing an entry takes out every language it holds and cannot be undone.
Turning On Delete Mode
Open a memory or term base from Resources, then either select Delete segment from the Edit menu or select the bin button on the toolbar. Any edit you had in progress is saved first, so the grid never becomes read-only over unsaved work.
While the mode is armed, the Editor makes the state obvious:
-
The toolbar is replaced by a red bar reading Click a segment to delete it permanently, with an Exit delete mode button.
-
The grid is tinted and becomes read-only.
-
Every row number turns into a bin.
Only the tools that help you find an entry stay available: filtering, search, and the Navigation menu, along with the Filters, Statistics and Properties panels. Menus, shortcuts, the per-segment toolbar, undo and redo, batch submission, and the panels that write (Batch Actions, Comments, QA, Revisions) are all suspended until you leave the mode.
Deleting an Entry
Select anywhere in the row you want to remove. The Editor asks you to confirm, naming the entry by the segment ID shown in the first column and stating that every language will go and that the deletion cannot be undone.
The confirmation cannot be dismissed by selecting outside it, focus opens on Cancel, and Enter is not bound to the delete action. Press ESC and nothing happens.
When you confirm, the row is removed, the rows below close the gap, the entry count drops, and a message confirms Segment {id} deleted. Delete mode stays on so you can continue. If the entry cannot be removed, it stays exactly where it was and the message reads Segment {id} could not be deleted.
Deletion removes the whole database entry, including every language it holds, not just the language you are looking at. There is no undo and no recycle bin. A locked language does not protect an entry: a lock applies to the content of one language, while this removes the record itself.
Leaving Delete Mode
Three ways out, all equivalent: select Exit delete mode on the mode bar, select Delete segment in the Edit menu again, or press ESC with no confirmation open. The grid returns to normal. The mode lasts only for the current session and is never armed when you open a resource.
Who Can Delete
The menu item and the toolbar button are hidden entirely, not grayed out, for users who are not allowed to delete. They are also absent in job scope, including for a memory or term base attached to a project or a job: deletion is available only when you open the resource from Resources.
